ALEXEY CVR If I were life 2024

Cover design by author

Never Happened

I’ve never heard your voice,
And we’ve never had those mornings
When I enjoyed to wake you up
With tantalizing fragrance

Of coffee, Turkish style.
All those pundits
Were never caught
In the crossfire of our wits,

And our laughter has never
Bounced off the walls
Of a small apartment
That we’ve never rented.

I’ve never written all those songs.
Yes, not a single one.
No one have ever heard them,
Including you, my love.

You’ve never asked me
To drive down the East Coast,
And my affirmative answer
Has never dissolved

Into thin air of Long Island.
We’ve never drank Champaign that night,
And I’ve never written that manifesto,
Basically claiming

That I am the only person in the world
Who actually comprehends
The ways of modern poetry.

No, no, no, no.
I totally deny it.
I’ve never gone that far.

If I were Life

If I were life, I, too, would prefer
To be originated in the ocean.
I would choose a tropical island

Made up of ancient sand dunes,
Barely visible, almost lost in the middle
Of an incomprehensible vastness.

There would be palm trees
Withstanding tropical sun,
Winds, and storms. There would be

Birds nesting on the ground.
There would be coral reefs
Of all shapes and colours.

There would be innumerable
Marine creatures big and small.

They would be me, I would be them,
And I would contemplate this for all eternity.

Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti.

Alexey Deyneko BioCVR Non Fungible Token 2023 Cover design by author

Non-Fungible Token

If your token is non-fungible,
It, by definition, is:

Non-yeastable,
Non-rustable,
Non-smutable,
Non-mildewble,
Non-moldable,
And non-mushroomable

At the same time.

If you want to add
Even more value to your token,
Make it non-oomycetable
As well, just in case.

Oomycetes are very fungi-like too.

Science communication

Meine liebe Mutter,
I would like to tell you…
I’m not as lazy
As you would have thought.

The second law,
We’re all supposed to follow,
Does not allow me…

Entropy, you know.

Like a book

If you read me like a book,
Please read aloud.

I’d like to listen to
What I am.

Subway

I wonder why those things
We sometimes do
Are called submissions?

Is that because they too
Try to subdue
Our subtle missions?

To check if this is true
I told some dude
To submit on Sunday.

And more,
Much more than this,
I did it subway.

.

Submerged rocks

Being submerged is considered
To be very cool here in Australia.
Just yesterday, walking along

One of Sydney’s Northern Beaches,
I saw this reminder once again:

Submerged rocks.

Not this time

“Not this time,”
She whispered
And left me

With a long-lasting
Sense of her kiss
On my cheek.
