   What I Said

   Mired in my mind maze,
   lonely and lost,
   as I wander around
   inside my own head.
   Wise words I uttered,
   at too high a cost,
   because, I cannot
   remember what I said.

   Inner Monologue

How do I learn to act
   rather than react?
   Am I captive to my
   animal self; is that fact?
   Meditation, I hear, will
quiet the voice in my head.
   I also hear that’s impossible;
   what was that I said?

Never About

It was never about what I lost,
nor about what I might gain.
It was my life’s foolish cost.
All my wishes wished in vain.

No One

All the steps of daily life
are now no more than ever.
More slowly I move, my strife.
I know, no one lives forever.

I’m OK

I’m OK with being a cliché,
old enough now not to care.
Here many a year and a day,
I sometimes do what I dare.

Pieces and Parts

I will play one last piece,
each time, before I depart.
Until I take the stage anew.
I will sit a while in peace,
and choose my new part.
I’ve been me. Can I be you?
