It is the ends of life
we search for

wondering

how can you tie a bow
without holding all the string

Happy Creatures

The odds are against
any given robin
surviving another year,
a house finch
keeping a secret,
a human being
anything but one
of earth’s happy creatures

Red Crossbill

Sometimes you meet
no one. Sometimes
you play the hits.
Sometimes you hear
seven sweet notes
and catch a disappearance
of amber as your
attention drains
quickly into a perch
where nothing sits
anymore
