Wedge

Island bugs gnaw away
my very soul

once enamored with loons
searching for food,
turtle nests hatching
glimpses of a summer sky.

When the hard lumps of chomps
wedged between my pantaloons

shrink

I’ll immerse in nature
once again.

Adrift

Shattered life dreams,
shards of colored glass on sand.

Azure eyes gaze on families playing
on dunes, laughing, holding hands.

She curves her mind into the ocean
waves where curses cannot echo

and sails her boat adrift.
