Thomas Cannon

Thomas Cannon was appointed as the first Poet Laureate of Oshkosh, WI in August 2021. He has authored the novels No More Ugly Girls, Shattered and The Tao of Apathy. Furthermore, his published works include two collections of short stories, two chapbooks, and a novella.

At sunset,
we walked along the beach barefoot.
We returned sweaty and tired
sniping at each other.
We showered before bed, but still
our romantic walk left us
with sand on the sheets
and our backs to each other.
.

things could get cleared up
with the one conversation
we'll never have
hold your anger
pass it down
I'll fold my arms
Let's do this every evening
schedule it at work
stand stoic as a nation.
Let our anger warm us
into jerky.
