Craig Crawford - Wanderlust Ceramics
It was during the prep work for a Hera Gallery/OPP Ekphrasis event (facilitated by John Kotula & Lynnie Gobeille) that we met artist Craig Crawford. Craig offered to work with Jan Keough's poetry and created three ceramic tiles to visually interprete the poem, "This Water Fountain." We felt a kinship with Craig and her artistic sensibilities every since. Not so long ago, we spent time with Craig at her studio in East Greenwich when she kindly agreed to participate in the April 2013 Narragansett Towers Poetry event. Along with poet/artist Mo Mancini, her work will be on display.
We want to add that she was featured in Hera Gallery's the "World's Smallest Art Gallery" on the bike path in Peacedale.
From her website:
The studio of Wanderlust Ceramics started by Craig Crawford in 2006 is located in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. She holds a degree in Textiles from the Rhode island School of Design. The inspiration for the ceramics created in the Wanderlust studio come from English Delftware of the 1700's and museums of natural history. The ever growing collection of images have been collected from a variety of sources and time periods. The endless combinations of images, shapes and color fuel the process and the resulting visual language of the pieces convey humor, devilment and curiosity. The antiquarian feel of the pieces suggests their own secret past life. (All pieces are made to order.)
