Artwork by Helen Burke
Helen Burke
Helen Burke is a poet of some 40 years, turned artist. Because she was writing a children’s book – she decided to have a crack at doing the cover – and so the whole process began.
She followed a printmaking course for some years – and then specialised in carborundum collagraph printing techniques. This is the area she now favours most, although she also works in acrylics, mixed media, pen & ink wash, and even watercolour – if she feels brave. Life drawing is also a favourite area. She has no “formal” art training and prefers to follow her own path with this. The principle being – if it isn’t broken – don’t fix it!!
She has exhibited at galleries in Hull and Leeds in the United Kingdom, and now has a range of art cards available direct from her (and shortly on her partner’s jewellery) websites. These designs are now being digitally reproduced onto fabric – and will shortly be available in a range of women’s fashion, quality cushions, and chiffon scarves.
This page displays some typical images. She is pleased to say that the OPP has kindly used several of her images.

Editors Note:
Not long after the Origami Poems Project website went live, we received an email from Helen Burke asking about our curious poetry project. Well, seven micro-chapbooks later, we are all goodl friends and still enjoying the adventure. Here is how she described her discovery:
So true, Helen - nothing stranger than life and more encouraging than discovering a friend & artist!
