Missing You

He had his own language
Making things from itch itch,
Instead of from scratch,
Saying lettuché for lettuce
Squish for squash
Poompkin for pumpkin
Chocolate mouse, instead of mousse
When my mother told him
She put five-spice on the acorn squash,
He said, I see them 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
I liked how his eyes lit up when he was delighted,
And his mouth twitched with delight
We visited a chocolate store my mother read about
"Did you see the chocolate dogs?" I asked excitedly
I'm not surprised, he said. I once saw chocolate bark
I told him he was my special pal
He said I was his
"Forever and ever?"
Let's hope so, he said.
One day I told him I would go see my friend
I asked what he would do without me to entertain him
He said he would be very busy
"Doing what?" I wondered
And he said, Missing you
