Finalist:

bird banding

       Bill Sullivan

more than recording
species sex weight and number
there is gentleness
in coaxing claws from the net
concern putting birds in bags
kindness in holding
care in cupping with warm palm
beauty in feathers
that forever bind bird and boy
freedom in the whirr of wings
