Traverse

The way is so familiar,
rocks and roots appear as friends.
Body aching, and my heart.
To summit? Well, it all depends.

The weather holds no drama
and a perfect day’s assured.
Landmarks greet me as I step,
their welcome said without a word.

Another trek’s accounted
on this trail I hold so dear.
But I wonder, will it deign
to have me back again next year?

All Good

Near gentle waves on pristine shores
or bright cascading woodland streams,
I’ve spent my favorite times outdoors
in idle thought of pointless schemes.

A lapdog or a strident hound,
each one’s a loyal friend, indeed.
For canine company, I’ve found,
does not depend on strength or speed.

My mirrored self, just slightly gray,
a wearied figure pondering there.
Suspenders or a belt today?
At this point, I don’t really care.

Information Please

I have some questions Grandma,
please help me for a while
and show me how to figure out
the inches in a mile.
Then tell me where Chicago is
and what Great Lake it’s by
and why a tickle makes you laugh
and onions make you cry.

I hope I grow up smart enough
to help you out some day,
so if there’s something you don’t know,
just ask me then, Okay?

I’m Not Going Swimming

I’m not going swimming
‘cause it looks too cold in there.

Don’t tell me I’ll get used to it,
believe me I don’t care.

I’m not going swimming
absolutely not I swear!

You can jump in if you want,
I wouldn’t on a dare.
