Jenny Chava Hudson - CHAVANICEDAY

CEO of Merrimack Media, Jenny her career as an art teacher and transitioned into designing and producing her own line of outerwear for the boutique market. It was then that she became became smitten with the Internet. In 1998, she studied web design and since then has created sites for universities and non-profits, but mostly designs websites and graphics  for creative businesses. Her fascination with all things digital led her to digital painting and she began creating Glasscsapes in 2002.  She has taught high school and college art with both traditional and digital media.

She is a past member of the Copley Society, The Cambridge Art Association, the Newburyport Art Association, and has exhibited in galleries in Boston and its North Shore. She has taught various aspects of graphic design, illustration, and digital media at Endicott College and Northern Essex Community College.  Her work is in many corporate and private collections. Most recently, she had a solo show at the McCoy Gallery at Merrimack College.

Her Artist Statement:

I am drawn to the new colors and patterns formed when I overlay a tiny sample of color from my photos of colored glass. I copy them to a new file and stretch them out to create forms, and then overlay them, designing  fantasy landscapes, or abstract compositions.  I call these works GLASSCAPES, since the when I stretch the pixels into new shapes, they react the same as blowing glass with its translucency,  giving these works their crystalline appearance. Recently I have been experimenting with texture, working it in with layers of scanned-in scumbled patterns, which contrast the translucent forms. The GLASSCAPES are output as gliclee prints on heavy, archival paper or aluminum, sized 16 x 20 and up.  Some are face-mounted for a truly glass-like appearance and they can be printed out at any size.  Once they are printed, I sometimes work into them again with oil or acrylic paint.

My goal is to continue my exploration of digital art, using the unique editing and creative potential of the computer.  Since I am a web/graphic designer, I am constantly playing with Photoshop and Illustrator and am fascinated with the unlimited possibilities that these programs bring to my art. My most significant accomplishment to date is discovering my technique, totally unique and original, that I use to create GLASSCAPES and I intent to continue to explore it.

I have always created art, starting with lessons at the The Toledo Museum of Art, every Saturday from age 8 - 17 and have been an art educator a clothing designer, and a graphic/web designer, always involved in the creative process.
